Constraint induced movement therapy (CIMT) is suitable for both adults and children with impairment of one upper limb, related to damage to the brain at birth, during development or later on in life. CIMT has been proven to be particularly effective for stroke patients, however, people with other neurological conditions can also benefit from CIMT including: To successfully participate in our CIMT programme patients must already have a certain level of movement in their upper limb. Our physiotherapists will determine whether you are suitable by completing an initial screening assessment of your current function. We will make recommendations regarding your suitability for the programme and outline the full programme requirements. If you are not suitable for CIMT our physiotherapists may recommend other types of appropriate treatment.

CIMT is designed to be completed intensively so requires a high level of commitment. People must also be ability to follow and focus on instructions in order to take part in this type of treatment.
